Due to the pandemic, all things are affected globally, not just food, work, and other essentials we need. The electronic industry is affected as well and prices went up drastically.

But even though PC parts and other electronics are getting expensive companies like Ovation are still finding ways to offer budget-friendly products.

In this article, we will be reviewing the Ovation CPU featuring AMD Ryzen 5 3600. We will be doing some benchmarks and see if there are any differences compared to a retail unit, we will also compare the price, warranty, and of course, if it’s worth it or not.

Who is Ovation Republic?

Ovation Republic was established in 2013 by a group of enthusiasts, aiming to provide budget-friendly but high-quality products. Their products are ranging from LCD panels, PSU, storage drives, and OEM CPU.

They are based in Singapore and they also have the Singapore business certificate to prove that they are a legit company.

Unboxing

As you can see the box is not AMD, Ovation has their own branding and what they are selling are OEM Tray type CPU. In the box we have the CPU itself, CPU cooler (as for the cooler sometimes you will get and stock cooler or a custom tower cooler based on the stocks that Ovation can get on the manufacturers) and lastly the AMD sticker.

Warranty

Warranty is the biggest compromise for this product, Ovation CPU or Ovation Ryzen 5 3600 is an OEM Tray Type CPU rebranded to CPU and warranty is offered by Ovation.

Ovation offers 2 years warranty for their CPUs not just AMD but also INTEL CPUs.

OEM Tray Type vs Box Type (Retail Unit)

OEM Tray type CPUs are bought in bulk for Pre-build pcs, laptops and sometimes purchased separately as an OEM product to be rebranded like what Ovation does. However, OEM products or Tray Type CPUs don’t have a warranty to the manufacturer instead the warranty will be provided by the seller.

Box types are the retail units coming from the original manufacturer with complete accessories and warranty. They are available on authorized retails and the warranty is provided by the original manufacturer like AMD or Intel.

Price

With regards to the price, you will usually see discounted CPUs similar to Ovation on some famous retail shops here in the Philippines. The current price of the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 usually ranges at around 14,000 PHP, as for Ovation they are selling their Ovation CPU Ryzen 5 3600 at 12,800 PHP but this price comparison is subjective and will vary based on the retail shops.

CPU Performance

Before we proceed with the benchmarks result, here are the hardware used for this testing:

CPU Temps

As for the CPU temps, we know that even the retail unit of AMD Ryzen 5 3600 is having a problem with its high idle temps. I’ve researched about the issue and it’s a common issue due to the performance of the Ryzen 5 3600 even though you have a decent CPU Cooler. You can further check the statement of one of the AMD Technical Staff here on Reddit.

As for the temperatures you can check it out on the video for the temps using the Ryzen 5 3600 on stocks settings and undervolting the Ryzen 5 3600.

Stock settings usually get an idle temp of around 40-55c and around 88-95c on full load.

After tweaking the bios and reducing the voltage, disabling the core performance boost the idle temps were down to 35-46c, and on full load, I am getting around 56-64c

All these we’re tested under an ambient temperature of around 25-30c.

Recommendations

For the conclusion of our review, does Ovation CPU or Ovation Ryzen 5 3600 CPU recommended? Yes!

However, we cannot force others to do the same, if you are a beginner and you don’t have enough knowledge about PC parts I suggest you buy from Authorized retailers, so you can have the full warranty option from the original manufacturer. And many people will still have a doubt about buying Ovation’s products because it’s their money but that is up to them.

But for people who have at least the knowledge about PC parts, cannot wait for the new stocks to arrive on their nearby authorized retailers and people who wanted to build a PC and can save up money then Ovation might be an option for you.

Overall with all the tests and benchmarks, we did we can say that Ovation CPU specifically the OEM Ryzen 5 3600 they are selling is LEGIT and can be trusted. I will update this article and provide you feedback after 6 or 9 months.
